INST 3016 - Crisis and Protest: Home and Abroad

Hours: 3
Examines common complex social and political issues between post-World War II societies in Europe and the United States. Topics such as race relations, economic and social transformation, democratization and radical political movements, immigration and national identity will be explored through the filters of popular culture, political essays, fictional writings, as well as film and other visual media. Potential class projects will not only ask students to internalize information through traditional exams, but also to critically explore the ideas of public good and ideal society through writing and research that will then be presented and debated during class meetings.
Prerequisites: Jr standing or above, and a minimum of one course from at least four of the following INST threads: 2000, 2200, 2400, 2600, and 2800. Not open to students with credit for any INST 3000-level course.
