EDUC 1600 - Study of the School - Writing Intensive

Critical examination of beliefs about education and exploration of the role teachers and schools play in creating an equal education that results in powerful learning and democratic participation. Emphasizes the impact that social and political events have had on the history and philosophy of education. Dispositions and skills that are critical to becoming a successful teacher. Activities may include: intensive readings, group discussion, class presentations, research and writing assignments.
Prerequisites: ACT scores 17 or above on Reading and Math, or SAT scores 420 or above on Reading and 430 or above on Math, or Accuplacer Next-Generation scores of 246 or above on Reading and 246 or above on Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics; overall 2.5 GPA or higher on all coursework; current BCI/FBI background check must be on file in the Education office; and permission of department.
Notes: 40 off campus field hours required. This course has an additional fee.
