Women’s Studies Minor

The Women’s Studies minor promotes interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of the history, contributions, issues, and conditions affecting women in society and gender as a system. Courses in the program explore the nature and effects of gender in various national and global contexts and connect it to other important identity categories including race, class, and sexuality. In doing so, the minor helps students develop critical thinking and interaction skills and enhance their knowledge of issues facing diverse societies today.

Required (at least 25 total hours):


Students complete remaining 15-18 hours from the following areas with no more than 10 hours taken in any one grouping. At least five of the remaining hours must be at the 300/400 level:

  •  

  • XXXX 390 Independent Study (may be arranged with any academic department; also requires approval of Women’s Studies coordinator)
  • XXXX x91 Experimental courses (may be taken in any academic department when the course is centered on issues related to women or gender; requires approval of Women’s Studies coordinator)
  • XXXX 490 Internship (may be arranged with any academic department; also requires approval of Women’s Studies coordinator)

Total Hours in the Minor:


  • Above courses must total at least 25 hours with at least 10 of these hours at the 300/400 level.
