Minimum GPA

A minimum GPA of 3.000 overall must be achieved.

Middle Childhood Education Program Requirements

General Education Requirements (15 hrs)

All MAT candidates in the Middle Childhood program are required to have 15 semester hours of general education coursework in the following areas. Some of the courses listed below also appear on the list of required professional education courses.

Arts and Humanities (one course)

  • INST 2200:2299
  • INST 2600:2699
  • Other course from ART, DANC, MUSC, PHRE, or THR (must be approved by Graduate Program Director)

English (one course)

  • ENGL 1000:4999
  • INST 1500:1599

Mathematics (one course)

  • MATH 1000:4999

Science (one course)

  • BIO 1000:4999
  • CHEM 1000:4999
  • ESCI 1000:4999 
  • INST 2400:2499

Social Studies (one course)

  • HIST 1000:4999
  • INST 2000:2099
  • POLS 1000:4999
  • PSYC 1000:4999

Professional Education Requirements (36 hrs)

A minimum grade of C is required in all EDUC courses.

Core (18 hrs)

Major (18 hrs)

Other Professional Education Requirements (15 hrs)

Reading (12 hrs)

Technology (3 hrs)

Concentration Areas (Choose Two)

Specific course requirements are outlined below. Students may receive credit for some of these courses through previous undergraduate work.

Language Arts Concentration (24 hrs)

Mathematics Concentration (19 hrs)

Candidates who do not transfer in credit for MATH 1700 must take a math placement test in order to determine whether additional prerequisite coursework is needed.

Science Concentration (26 hrs)

Social Studies Concentration (21 hrs)

Application for Degree

Prospective graduates must submit a Graduation Application to the Office of the Registrar during the term prior to the intended final semester.
