INST 3022 - Video Games and Society

Hours: 3
Video games are among the most socially and economically significant forms of entertainment media today and their popularity is growing. This course explores video game culture, and in doing so, utilizes games as a framework to better understand social life and technological development. We will investigate consumption patterns, community building, and how the intersection of race, social class, and gender identities are represented in video game development and design. You need not be a gamer to take this class.
Prerequisites: Jr standing or above, and a minimum of one course from at least four of the following INST threads: 2000, 2200, 2400, 2600, and 2800. Not open to students with credit for any INST 3000-level course.
