EDUC 6600 - Reading Foundations

Hours: 3
Exploring, comparing and contrasting major theories of language and literacy acquisition, with emphases on psychological, sociological, and linguistic models. Students study the reading process in the context of the major components of reading (phonemic awareness, word identification and phonics, vocabulary and background knowledge, fluency, comprehension and motivation) with particular attention to variations of the process related to cultural and linguistic diversity.
