  • Note:

    • Students are admitted to the Nursing program once per year. The application deadline is the last Friday in January in order to start in Fall Semester of the same year.
    • Prerequisites that must be completed prior to starting are: BIO 1810, 1820; CHEM 1100, 1110, 1200; INST 1501 or 1502 or 1503; PSYC 1000, 2000.
    • A minimum grade of “C” is required in BIO 1810, 1820, 2800, 2900; CHEM 1100, 1110, 1200; MATH 1240; PSYC 1000, 2000; and INST Identity Projects (INST 1501-1503). If a grade less than “C” is earned, these courses must be repeated in order to meet prerequisite and degree requirements.
    • A minimum grade of “C+” is required in all nursing (NURS) courses. To proceed in the sequence of nursing courses, all prerequisite nursing courses must be completed with a “C+” or better.
    • A student receiving two (2) grades of C or lower in the original attempt in all nursing courses;  or C-  or lower in BIO 1810, 1820, 2800, 2900; CHEM 1100, 1110, 1200; MATH 1240; PSYC 1000, 2000; or any combination of these courses  will no longer be able to continue in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. A student may attempt only one nursing course twice in the BSN Program. An attempt is defined as being enrolled in a course beyond the twenty-fifth class day. Receiving a grade of C or lower or a W (withdrawal) in the original attempt of any nursing course will constitute an attempt.
    • It is possible to substitute an SYE travel course for NURS 4999.
    • Classes are offered in the day only. The NURS courses require three years to complete. There is no accelerated option.

III. Residency Requirements

In order to graduate from any university a student should take a significant proportion of the hours for his or her program of study from that university, take a significant proportion of hours in the major from that university, and take a significant proportion of the “signature elements” of that university’s general education requirements.

At Otterbein, at least 48 semester hours of coursework must be taken in Otterbein classes. MATH 0900 cannot be used to help fulfill this requirement. Of these hours:

  • at least 12 semester hours must be taken in each of a student’s majors at the 3000 level or above,
  • at least 4 semester hours (any level) must be taken in each minor, and
  • the INST dyad must be taken at Otterbein.

IV. Required Total Hours for the Degree (126 hrs)

If the coursework taken to fulfill the General Education Requirements and the requirements in your major do not equal 126 hours, select a sufficient number of electives to achieve that total. In most cases, taking elective work to reach 126 hours will not be necessary since all courses required for this degree program total 133 hours. If any coursework is waived or is transferred for less credit than its Otterbein equivalent, electives may be necessary in order to reach 126 hours.

V. Minimum GPA Overall and in the Major

A GPA of 2.0 overall as well as in the major must be achieved.

VI. Application for Degree

A prospective graduate must complete an Application for Degree at the Registrar’s Office two terms prior to the term in which the degree is to be completed.
