EDUC 2600 - Emergent Literacy in Inclusive Environments - Writing Intensive

Hours: 3
The science of emergent reading research, the socio-linguistic foundations of literacy learning, and childhood development. Emphasis on assessment, observation, and description of emergent literacy learning. Teacher candidates learn to use assessment tools and techniques to inform the creation of learning environments, use play-based and culturally responsive methods and materials, and design differentiated individual, small group, and whole class instruction.
Prerequisites: EDUC 1600 and 1700 with minimum grades of C. Corequisites: EDUC 2555 for 1 credit if taking 2600 only, or for 2 credits if taking both 2510 and 2600. Current BCI/FBI background check must be on file in the Education Office.
Prerequisites or Corequisites: EDUC 2200.
