MATH 3000 - Real Analysis I - Writing Intensive

Hours: 4
The basic elements of the subject include sequences, limits, continuity, differentiation, Riemann integration, and series. These topics plus the topology of Euclidean space - open sets, closed sets, compact sets, and the theorem of Heine-Borel - are discussed. The basics of metric spaces and normed vector spaces are also studied, as are the inequalities of Young, Holder, and Minkowski. Students are expected to present rigorous proofs and problem solutions both orally and in writing.
Prerequisites: MATH 1500, or C- or better in MATH 1800
Notes: Offered in Spring Semester
