Musical Theatre B.F.A.

This program is designed to prepare students for careers as actor-singer-dancers in the professional musical theatre. It is interdisciplinary and is administered jointly by the Department of Music and the Department of Theatre and Dance. Selection and admission is made on the basis of a joint interview and audition. All B.F.A. students are evaluated by the faculty annually, and must meet expectations in Participation and in their other required major classes as stated above. Approval of the faculty is required for continuation in the B.F.A. in Musical Theatre program.

Requirements in the Core Curriculum for the Theatre and Dance Department:

Integrative Studies - 50 hrs (INST 310 - ART FORMS: IMAGES AND IDEAS or INST 320 - MUSIC AND HUMAN NATURE must be selected)
Health and Physical Education Lifestyle Series - 3 hrs
Senior Year Experience - THR 490 - INTERNSHIP , a course required in the major, satisfies this requirement

Requirements in the major (127 hrs or equivalent):

Required Studies in Musical Theatre including acting and voice

Required Studies in Dance and Movement

Required Support Courses in Music and Theatre

Plus at least 7-10 hrs of history courses selected from:

Must be fulfilled by all transfer students (see The Academic Program .)

Application for Degree:

A prospective graduate must request an Application for Degree at the Registrar’s Office two terms prior to the term in which the degree is to be completed.
