MSN, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) to Family Nurse Practitioner

The ADN to MSN program is designed for the Registered Nurse with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing who has demonstrated academic excellence and clinical expertise. The program accelerates the student, based on knowledge gained through previous education and work experience, into graduate level coursework leading to clinical competence in an advanced nursing role. Transition courses are required that transition the student professionally to graduate level competence.

I. Transition Courses (all courses required)

  • NURS 3000 - Theoretical and Evidence-based Foundations for Practice in Nursing 4 hrs
  • NURS 3510 - Community Nursing 6 hrs

  • INST 2202 - The Responsible Self in Hinduism and Buddhism 4 hrs
  • INST 2203 - Ethics in a Global Context 4 hrs
  • INST 2204 - Happiness and the Good Life 4 hrs
  • INST 2205 - Engaged Lives 4 hrs
  • PHIL 1000 - Philosophical Problems 4 hrs
  • PHIL 1300 - Contemporary Moral Problems 4 hrs
    Note: A grade of B- or better must be earned in each course.

II. Major Requirements (37 hrs)

Note: A minimum grade of B- (B minus) must be achieved in ALL courses.

III. Minimum GPA

An overall GPA of 3.0 must be achieved.


IV. Application for Degree

A prospective graduate must complete an Application for Degree at the Registrar’s Office two terms prior to the term in which the degree is to be completed.
