EDUC 660 - Reading Foundations - 5 hr

Hours: 5
In this course students explore, compare and contrast major theories of language and literacy acquisition, with emphases on psychological, sociological, and linguistic models. Students study the reading process in the context of the major components of reading (phonemic awareness, word identification and phonics, vocabulary and background knowledge, fluency, comprehension and motivation) with particular attention to variations of the process related to cultural and linguistic diversity. Prerequisites EDUC 325, 335, or 530 or permission of instructor.
