EDUC 5450 - MAT Middle Childhood Science Methods

A graduate-level study of middle childhood teaching methods in life, earth and space, and physical science, including planning and implementing standards-based inquiry investigations, and integrating history and philosophy of science in science curricula. Pre-service teachers will develop instructional and assessment strategies based on knowledge of middle-grades students’ difficulties in learning science, developmentally appropriate practices, and the ability to develop broad, interdisciplinary lessons. Cultivates a science-specific professional knowledge base, including awareness of: safety issues involved in organizing and maintaining a science classroom, science-related community resources, and science teacher professional organizations.
Corequisites: EDUC 5400, or permission of instructor.
