INST 2419 - Living with Nature: The Environmental and Socioeconomic Dimensions of Society in a Changing Climate

Hours: 3
Examines the inter-relationship between humans and nature from the perspectives of energy-use, food production, and urban development. Explores the sustainability of past and present anthropogenic development, how these behaviors are changing the climate and the consequences of these changes on human prosperity, and what we must do moving forward to adapt to a changing world. Themes that will be explored include: the impact of urban development on wildlife and the environment; the possibility of cities’ adaptation to changing environmental conditions; our capability of living sustainably with nature; the social inequalities and ethical issues related to environmental degradation; a historical perspective on lessons learned, to inform our future paths and consider whether we are condemned to repeating our past mistakes.
