Introduction to academic study of Christianity using multiple disciplinary approaches. Topics may include the theological discourses of the canonical New Testament as well as other manuscripts from early Christian origins; the streams of apostolic tradition that influenced the writers of these works; the communities in which they lived; the relationship of the canon as an authoritative collection of sacred books; extra-canonical writings; medieval Christianities and state formation; global Christianities of Africa, Asia, and Latin America; Christianity, colonialism, and empire; Evangelicalism and American politics; and Christianity and material culture, among others.
