EDUC 3390 - Science of Reading: Specialized Systematic Instruction for K-12 Students with Reading Disabilities

Hours: 3
Candidates examine key concepts and research-based practices for students with reading and writing disabilities. Students will be introduced to the signs and symptoms of dyslexia, examine scientific research behind remediations, and discuss accommodations available to students who have reading or writing disabilities. Students will learn multisensory teaching techniques, assessment procedures, and structured word inquiry approaches. Students will practice these skills in a 1-1 tutoring setting.
Prerequisites: EDUC 1700 or 1710.
Notes: Requires 20 clock hours of field experience.
