SMGT 2450 - Sociology of Sport

This course offers a broad introduction to some of the scholarship and debates surrounding contemporary issues of American sport. A critical perspective will be used to examine sport as a significant social institution and its relationship to the cultural construction and interpretation of race, gender, and class. This course is intended to help develop and improve critical analysis skills, to learn and understand the historical and social context underlying the current state of American sport, and to become more savvy sport culture critics.
