MUSC 3046 - American Popular Music

Hours: 4
Beginning with the early Delta Blues, this course explores the music and artists that provided the context for life in America from 1900 to today. Content is structured to explore both musical topics and social/political climates, as these often went hand in hand. Additional topics will include the development of music journalism throughout the 20th century, influences from abroad, a cursory evaluation of period recording technologies, and a significant critical listening component.
Notes: This course may be used as a substitute for the INST Creativity and Culture (INST 2600’s) requirement.
