MUSC 4083 - The Solo Recital

Hours: 4
2 hours Fall, 2 hours Spring. This SYE course will meet over two semesters and will examine the concept of public recital preparation and performance, its history, evolution and arrival at the millennium. Reaching out beyond the field of music, the recitalists will read about and discuss the role of the arts within society-at-large, including an examination of the place of the solo recital in today’s global culture. To that end, and to more fully recognize the arts as a dynamic, ever-changing force, each student will interview a living composer, and perform a work of the composer as part of the culminating recital. Open to BMUS students only. BA in Music students may elect the course with the permission of the chairperson.
