HIST 3504 - The Cold War in the U.S. and Abroad

Hours: 4
This course will examine the Cold War as a political, ideological, economic, military, and cultural contest between the United States and the Soviet Union. It will investigate how the Cold War started and why, how it was waged, how it came to an end, and how the end of the Cold War shaped the challenges and problems that the United States now faces abroad. The course emphasizes the global nature of the Cold War and will examine topics such as the nuclear arms race, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, the Soviet War in Afghanistan, and the U.S. and Soviet interventions in the Third World. The course will explore the impact of the Cold War on U.S. domestic society.
